CloudEx Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the "Dash Cam Pro" app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Our Core Principle
Dash Cam Pro turns your Android phone into a dashcam. It records video with your phone's camera in a continuous loop, and when it detects an impact — or when you tap save — it keeps the seconds before and after as a separate clip. Recording, impact detection, playback, and the trip log all run entirely on your device. Your videos and your driving history are yours: they are stored on your device, and we never view, collect, upload, or transmit them to our servers. There is no account and no sign-up. Specifically, we do not have access to any of the following:
- The videos and photos you record, or anything captured by the camera or microphone
- Your location, speed, routes, or trip history
- The text you choose to burn into your videos (such as a license plate number)
- The names or addresses of the Bluetooth devices you select in the app
Your videos and location data leave your device only through actions you take yourself: sharing or exporting a video, or opening a point of a recording in a map app (Section 2).
2. Camera, Microphone, Location, and Your Recordings
- Camera: The camera is used only while the recording screen is open or a recording is in progress. When nothing is being recorded and you leave the recording screen, the app releases the camera.
- Microphone: Sound is recorded with the video only while recording, and only when "Record sound" is on. You can turn it off in the settings; when it is off, the app does not use the microphone at all.
- Location: GPS is used to show your speed, to burn the speed (and, if you choose, the coordinates) into your video, to record the route of each video and trip, and for speed warnings. Location is used only while the recording screen or the speedometer (HUD) is open, or while a recording is in progress. In the background it is used only during recording, and a recording notification is always shown while it is.
- Where your recordings are kept: Loop recordings, impact clips, clips you save yourself, and the GPS track of each video (kept as a small .json file next to it) are stored in the app's own storage on your device, or on your SD card if you choose it as the save location. By default, saved clips are also copied to your device's gallery (Movies/DashCamPro) so that they are kept even if you uninstall the app; you can turn this off with "Also save clips to the gallery". Photos you take in the app are saved to Pictures/DashCamPro. Files in the gallery can be seen by other apps that you have allowed to access your photos and videos.
- When anything leaves your device: Only when you share or export a video yourself, or when you tap "Open this spot in maps", which passes the coordinates of that single point to the map app you choose. We never receive any of it.
- Recording other people: Your videos may capture other people, their faces, license plates, and conversations. When you share or publish videos, you are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you, such as privacy and audio-recording laws.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information Collected Automatically
- Anonymous crash reports: Via Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, we collect the stack trace, device model, OS version, and app version. This does not include personally identifiable information, your videos, or your location.
- App usage statistics: Via Google Analytics for Firebase. We collect anonymous app usage events (such as the app being opened) together with device information and the device's advertising ID (AAID). We use this data to understand aggregate app usage and to measure the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns (counting app installs that resulted from an ad). It is never used to display ads in the app.
- Purchase information: We use purchase tokens issued by Google Play to verify your one-time "Premium" purchase. We never receive any payment information such as credit card numbers.
- List of our other apps: To show our other apps, the app downloads their names, descriptions, and icons from our content server (static files hosted on Cloudflare Pages). The request contains no personal data from the app. As with any request to a web server, the server receives your device's IP address as part of the connection. Tapping an app in the list opens its page on Google Play.
3.2 Information Stored Only on Your Device
- Your videos and photos: Stored on your device as described in Section 2. They never leave it unless you share or export them.
- GPS tracks and impact markers: The route, speed, and impact points of each video are kept in a small .json file next to the video, and are used only to show the speed graph, the route, and the impact markers on the playback screen.
- Trip log: The route, distance, driving time, and top speed of each trip are stored in the app's storage on your device. A GPX file is created only when you export a trip, and goes only where you send it.
- App settings: Recording quality, what to burn into the video (including any custom text such as a license plate number), the car Bluetooth devices you select (name and address), the position of the floating window, and similar settings are stored on your device.
- Android backup: If backup is turned on in your device settings, Android may include the app's settings in the backup it saves to your own Google account, and may copy your settings and trip log to a new phone when you transfer your data directly. Video recordings are always excluded. This is handled by Android; we have no access to it.
- When you uninstall: Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes the recordings, trip log, and settings stored in the app's own storage. Clips and photos saved to the gallery remain until you delete them.
3.3 Information We Explicitly Do Not Collect
- Your videos and photos, or anything captured by the camera or microphone
- Your location, speed, routes, or trip history
- Your name, email address, phone number, or contacts (the app has no account or sign-up)
- A history of the websites you visit or the contents of your communications
- The contents of your screen or of other apps
3.4 Permissions the App Requests and Their Purposes
A dashcam needs several OS permissions. Dash Cam Pro uses them only for the stated purposes:
- Camera (CAMERA) — The core function of the app: recording video. Used only while the recording screen is open or a recording is in progress.
- Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — Records sound together with the video. Used only while recording, and only when "Record sound" is on in the settings.
- Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) — Shows your speed, burns the speed (and, if you choose, the coordinates) into the video, records the route of each video and trip, and gives speed warnings. Used in the background only while a recording is in progress, with a recording notification shown. Location data is stored only on your device.
- Foreground service (camera / microphone / location / special use) — Keeps recording reliably while the screen is off or you are using other apps. The special-use service runs only when "Start when charging begins" is on, to wait for charging to start.
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, Android 13+) — Shows the recording status with Save and Stop buttons and the standby for "Start when charging begins", and lets you know when a clip has been saved or if recording has stopped.
- Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — Requested only when you use automatic start (when charging begins or when your car's Bluetooth connects), to bring the recording screen to the front, or when you use the optional floating mini-window. It does not read any screen content.
- Nearby devices (BLUETOOTH / BLUETOOTH_CONNECT) — Requested only if you turn on "Start with car Bluetooth". Used to list your paired Bluetooth devices so you can choose your car, and to detect when it connects or disconnects. The app does not scan for other devices. The devices you select (name and address) are stored only on your device.
- Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — Restores the standby for "Start when charging begins" after your phone restarts. It does not start recording by itself.
- Do Not Disturb access (ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY) — Used only if you turn on "Do Not Disturb while driving" (Premium), to silence notifications while you drive. You grant this access separately in the system settings.
- Storage (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, Android 9 and earlier only) — Saves clips and photos to the gallery. Not requested on Android 10 and later.
- Internet (INTERNET) — Used only for anonymous crash and usage reports, Google Play purchase verification, in-app reviews and in-app updates, downloading the list of our other apps, and showing this privacy policy in the app. Recording, impact detection, and GPS do not require an internet connection.
